GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) – A little bit of Michigan is moving to Austin, Texas. A group called the Creative Many is helping fill a house there with Michigan-made products. It’s all happening at the South by Southwest music, film, and interactive conference.
Over 100,000 people from all over the world will come to the event. Organizations helping put together the Michigan House project see this as a perfect opportunity to have Michigan companies work together to bring the Midwest to the Southwest.
Guests will be invited to the house to enjoy Founders beer, sit on Herman Miller furniture, record music for ArtPrize, and even go for a ride on Sandy the Meijer horse. Panel discussions will happen at the house, too.
Joe Voss, an entertainment lawyer at Clark Hill, helped put the event together.
“What we have been surprised about as we put this together is — yes, there is an external focus that we are exporting and going to Austin, we are going to get exposure for products, organizations, and individuals in Michigan — but what has been surprising is that folks have been really interested in working together with the other participants in the house more meaningfully,” Voss said.
This is the first year Creative Many are trying this collaborative venue at South by Southwest. The Michigan House will be open for four days starting March 16 in Austin, Texas.
