Arts First! 2015 K-12 Fine Arts Teachers’ Conference

Professional Development Conference for all K-12 Fine Arts Teachers (Band, Orchestra, Vocal/General Music, Theatre and Visual Art)

8:30-9am – Registration and coffee featuring the Pied Pipers Recorder Ensemble from Baldwin Elementary School in Rochester, led by Mary Ann Fischer, Director

9-10am – Keynote: A New Chapter for Arts Education in Michigan: Building Statewide Support through Research, Advocacy and Communications with Sarah Gonzales Triplett, Director of Public Policy, CreativeMany

In August, Americans for the Arts launched a state policy pilot program (SP3) with an aim to influence implementation of federal mandates or programs at the state level through expanding state support of arts education policy and appropriations and impacting local access to arts programs and instruction for students. Michigan was selected as one of 10 pilot states to embark on this three-year program. Learn more about Michigan’s SP3 project, the team behind the program, the plans to move the mark for arts education in Michigan, and how you can get involved to ensure arts education is an indispensable component of every student’s curriculum in our state.

9am-3pm (See workshop listings inside) (Specific workshop times to be determined) A fabulous, wide array of concurrent grade-level, subject speci!c and general workshops presented by Fine Arts educators and noted specialists, as well as lunch.
