Shop Floor Theatre Company, a community centered place-based arts and education organization geared toward urban youth and social and cultural awareness, is looking for engaging, creative, and diverse plays. With a strong focus on new works, Shop Floor Theatre urges playwrights to submit all types of scripts through their representation.
New plays are most desirable: theatrical plays with substance and ideas that engage the intellect as well as the emotions. Shop Floor Theatre is looking for compelling stories and, most importantly, plays by under-represented voices (e.g., women, writers of color, and writers with disabilities). Diverse perspectives are important to Shop Floor Theatre, and we hope to receive a wealth of unique viewpoints to highlight. We accept full-length original plays, adaptations, translations, musicals, and solo plays. We are also presently considering short one-act and children’s plays.
We ask that queries include a resume, a synopsis of the play, a character breakdown, a 5-dialogue sample, audio for musicals, and the development and production history of the play. Please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope to ensure the return of submission materials. Response time for queries is 2-4 months. Include in the submission package the playwright’s bio or resume, a character breakdown, and audio for musicals. When commissioning new plays, Shop Floor Theatre will approach writers directly.
