Call for Teaching Artists at Lansing Art Gallery

Lansing Art Gallery and Education Center is seeking qualified, professional teaching artists to propose creative lesson plans and teach for our 2016 educational programs!

The gallery offers on-site instruction with qualified teaching artists in a dedicated education space which hosts up to fifteen students per session. Focusing on experimentation and technique, sessions offer creative experiences through a variety of high-quality media and subject matter. We are seeking several teaching artists skilled in a variety of media including but not limited to: drawing, painting, mixed media, collage, ceramics, sculpture, fibers, printmaking, and photography. Detailed information on each program is listed below.

Spring Break Art Camp
Students learn and experience creativity in the professional setting of Lansing Art Gallery during the week of spring break in April. Spring Break Art Camp is 5 days long and is divided into a morning and afternoon session. Instructors will be contracted for one session per week. We seek to offer a unique experience for morning and afternoon. Each session will culminate in a student art show in the Student Gallery on Fridays.
Seeking: 2 Instructors
Dates: 1 week, April 4 – 8
Instruction Times: 9 am – 12 pm OR 1pm to 4 pm
Ages: 7 – 12 years
Closing date: Until Filled. Proposals will be reviewed upon submission.

Summer Art Camp
Students learn and experience creativity in the professional setting of Lansing Art Gallery through hands on art projects and activities throughout the summer. Camps are 5 days long and are divided into morning and afternoon sessions. Instructors are typically contracted for one session per week, though instructors may teach for multiple weeks dependent on proposal selection. We seek to offer a variety of subject matter throughout the summer for our campers. Each session will culminate in a student art show in the Student Gallery on Fridays.
Seeking: 8-10 Instructors
Dates: 5 weeks – June 12 – 18, June 27-July 1, July 11-15, July 25-29, August 8-12
Instruction Times: 9 am – 12 pm OR 1 pm to 4 pm
Ages: 7 – 12 OR 13 – 15
Closing date: Until Filled

Creative Haven: an outreach program at Haven House of East Lansing
A new outreach project for youth, Creative Haven is an art-making program for families of all ages who currently reside at Haven House in East Lansing. Instructors will be contracted to teach workshops from mid-Spring through Early fall in 2016. Workshops will take place every two weeks. Proposals are being requested individually per workshop. Artwork from this program will be displayed in our student gallery once the program has concluded.
Seeking: 3-6 Instructors
Dates: TBA, beginning in February
Instruction Times: Evening
Ages: Youth and Adults; All ages
Closing date: Until Filled

To Apply:
Teacher Qualifications:
– BFA/BA or MFA/MA in Fine Art or Art Education
– Prior experience working with students in a classroom setting
– Must be a current, producing artist

To propose your course:

– Teaching Artist Budget Form
– 3 to 5 images of your personal artwork (no larger than 1 MB each, please)

Please be sure to include your preferred dates and availability on your proposal. Artists may submit multiple proposals for any program. You must fill out a separate proposal form for each session.
